I-Deal Consortium
i-Deal Consortium
The Intelligent Design Engine for Assisted Living Technology (i-DEAL) project, funded by the Technology Strategy Board (TSB) and the EPSRC, is headed up by healthcare industry specialist MedilinkWM, in partnership with i-Cue Care, Giga Systems, Safe Surgery Systems, Health Exchange CIC and the Health Design and Technology Institute (HDTI) at Coventry University. The TSB grant provides valuable R&D funding to industry partners developing innovative new products for the Assisted Living sector. The EPSRC grant provides funding for Coventry University through the new Health Design Technology Institute (HDTI) to develop an industry focussed user evaluation methodology.
This consortium seeks to develop a range of new products in close consultation with end users. One of the biggest challenges facing industry today is the development of assisted living products which meet the full range of user needs. This consortium brings together industry, academia and end users to support current product development and devise an effective user centred design methodology which will ensure products are “Fit for Purpose”.
The consortium aims to bring a range of new products to market ranging from Telemedicine through to Environmental control in the context of home and community based assisted living.

The Technology Strategy Board’s chief executive, Iain Gray, commented: “The impact of living longer and the quality and potentially increasing cost of care for those with chronic long term conditions are major societal and economic challenges. However, such challenges also give us the incentive to develop innovative solutions. “Through our investment in these exciting projects, the Technology Strategy Board is helping to bring together the UK’s world class expertise to research and develop innovative technologies that will bring social and economic benefits to the UK and will have global potential.” Many of the consortium members were actively involved in the development of the MedilinkWM technology demonstrators. If you would like to see some of these technologies in action please go to our Technology Demonstrators section. |
