These are underpinned by several innovative products, including a Smart Oven which uses barcodes to cook food eliminating the need for the user to have to programme the oven. This has particular relevance to social care agencies which provide meals on wheels services. Here precise cooking instructions can be written to bar codes on frozen and chilled foods prior to dispatch. This means that several frozen or chilled meals can be delivered to cover several days, instead of two ready heated meals per day.
Other products include the Able Link task builder program which runs off a touch screen tablet PC. This provides the user with step by step audible and visual instructions for simple daily tasks such as making a cup of tea or prompting to take medication. Additional memory prompting can be found in the hallway: here a motion sensor detects movement towards the front door and activates an audible message reminding occupants not to forget to take their keys with them when leaving the house.
