Safety and Independence

Safety and independence have been key design considerations. For example the use of potentially dangerous appliances such as the kettle, oven and hob are restricted to certain users. Access to kitchen appliances is controlled by a fingerprint reader, only individuals with a pre-determined profile will have access to all the appliances. The programmable water management system also provides in built safety features. All the water taps in the house are hands-free, temperature regulated and pre-programmed to deliver a set amount of water. This ensures ease of use, removes the risk of scalding (especially in the shower) and removes the risk of flooding due to the tap being left running. These features are intended to prevent accidents by removing hazards whilst at the same time encouraging independent living.
